On 17-19 July 2013, I hosted the first leg of an international study tour by the Incheon Sustainability Commission. The Commission is responsible for developing a sustainability programme for the 17th Asian Games, which take place in Incheon, South Korea in September and October 2014.
The delegation, led by Commission President Hyun-heui Jeon, included experts from Seoul National University and representatives from the Asian Games 2014 Organising Committee. They were later joined by Congressman, Jae-yun Kim, who chairs the national committee overseeing the Asian Games and the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang.
Together with a number of former London 2012 colleagues and other experts, I provided them with detailed briefings on the London 2012 sustainability story, what we did and how we went about it, covering subjects as diverse as carbon management, ISO 20121 sustainability management system, green infrastructure, sustainable urban transport systems and the development and management of temporary venues.
The tour included a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to see the legacy transformation works in progress.
